Marestella Torres celebrated motherhood by ruling the women’s long jump in the 2014 Hong Kong Inter-City Athletics Championship recently.

Flashing her old form, Torres made her golden leap of 6.27 meters in her first attempt during the meet held at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground in Hong Kong.

“It was an impressive performance for somebody who gave birth just five months ago,” said Go Teng Kok, president of the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association.

Though it was still way off her personal best of 6.71 meters, the two-time Olympian is said to be peaking correctly for the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

“I believe she can win a gold medal in the Asiad,” said Go.

The 33-year-old Torres won the 2009 Asian Championships with a leap of 6.51 meters and set her career-best 6.71 in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia to break her SEA Games mark.
