AFTER whipping their foes in the opener, four teams fight for the top spot in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Open Conference today at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The star-studded Philippine Army battles Philippine Air Force at 2 p.m., while fancied new team PLDT Home Telpad and Ateneo tangle in the second game at 4 p.m.

Despite debuting minus some of their core players, the PLDT Power Attackers ripped University of the Philippines in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, last Thursday.

But PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb knows the off-court challenges may soon take a toll on the team.

Last conference’s MVP Dindin Santiago, who’s hoping to suit up today, failed to show up the last time along with former La Salle ace Abigail Maraño, Carmina Aganon and Royze Estampa due to contractual obligations with other teams in a rival women’s volleyball league.

“The team isn’t running smoothly yet, so at least we won the first game,” said Gorayeb.

San Sebastian standout Gretchel Soltones carried the load for the Power Attackers by drilling in 16 points with former league MVP Suzzanne Roces also shining with 15.
