Wesley So topples Italian GM, climbs to solo lead

Top seed Wesley So continued his surge in the ACP Golden Classic Tuesday, besting Italian Grandmaster Daniel Vocaturo in the third round to gain the solo lead in Bergamo, Italy.

Following his second straight win, the 20-year-old So (Elo 2744) raised his total to 2.5 points.

So, winner of the recent Capablanca Memorial, beat No. 2 seed Ian Nepomniachtchi (2730) of Russia in the second round after an opening draw against Israeli Emil Sutovsky (2620).

The tournament takes a break Wednesday with the fourth round scheduled Thursday. So, who raised his live rating to a personal best 2753.4, good for world No. 12,  will be facing Zoltan Almasi (2693) of Hungary.

With 1.5 points were Italian Sapino Brunello, Sutovsky and Baadur Jobava of Georgia.
