Eric Olivarez Jr. bowed out in the boys’ singles quarterfinals but found consolation by barging into the doubles finals in tandem with Sahil Deshmukh of India Friday in the ITF-Ho Chi Minh City junior tennis championships in Vietnam.

Olivarez lost to Suphawit Sae-Oui of Thailand, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, ending his run in the Grade 5 event where the 16-year-old Filipino was looking to make a breakthrough semifinal stint.

But Olivarez and Deshmukh progressed to the doubles finals after a  6-4, 7-6 (7-5) stunner  over top seeds Aryan Goveas and Achad Imam Maruf.
