MANILA, Philippines — Fans paid to see an exhibition game between NBA All-Stars and Gilas Pilipinas but they were left asking for a refund.
Disgusted fans who paid for expensive tickets expecting to see basketball stars Blake Griffin, Paul George and Co. flooded the exits early and flocked the Araneta Coliseum lobby asking for their money back after organizers of the PLDT Last Home Stand, a two-day charity event, had to cancel the game Tuesday night.
“The way I described what happened was bullshit,” said a livid fan, who requested for anonymity. “We’re trying to get our money back. It’s not acceptable to sell this as a game and get everybody here and say we’re not having a game.”
“This is the worst sporting event I’ve ever been to,” he added.
The people inside the coliseum booed as players from Gilas and the NBA All-Stars did conditioning, layup and shooting drills instead of battling it out on the floor as advertised.
“It’s deceiving. Waste of time going here. Everybody here went to see a game and then they announced there won’t be a game?” said Clifford Ang. “Just stupid. That’s why everyone wants a refund.”
“I paid P10,000 for a ticket. Waste of time waste of everything. Blake Griffin wasn’t here, Paul George wasn’t here. They announced they’ll be here and they’re not here so what’s the point of going here.”
Griffin and George begged off at the last-second citing “urgent personal matters.”
