Global blanks Dolphins; Meralco upends Army
Picking up from where it left off in the league competition, reigning UFL champion Global got off to a rousing start in the Football Alliance League Cup by whipping Dolphins, 12-0, Tuesday night, even as Ceres-La Salle rolled to its second straight victory for top spot in Group A play at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Global dazzled with quick combination plays and clinical finishing as Izzo El-Habbib fired four goals, and Mark Hartmann and newcomer Edgar Briones found the back of the net three times each in another dominant display at Emperador Stadium.
Milad Behgandom scored in the first minute, before Yu Hoshide also struck late in the second half for coach Leigh Manson’s side, which took the lead in Group B on goal difference, ahead of Kaya which also posted a 9-1 victory over Dolphins last Saturday.
A retooled Loyola Meralco side also picked up its first victory in Group A, following a 3-1 dumping of a stubborn Army team.
