Nat’l Interschool golf fires off at Pueblo
MINDANAO’S best junior parbusters battle for slots in the national finals today and tomorrow in the regional leg of the JGFP-ICTSI National Inter-School golf championship at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club course in Cagayan de Oro.
Sixty players coming from Xavier University, Corpus Christi, Abbas Orchard, Oro Christian, Rosvelle, St. Mary’s, De La Salle Iligan, Kong Hua, COCS, CU, BFCSI, St. Paul, Brain Works, Holy Child College, San Miguel Elementary School and Del Monte School are entered in the tournament organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
The International Container Terminal Services Inc. Foundation and the Philippine Golf Foundation are the main backers of the competition that aims to discover regional talents seeking to follow in the footsteps of homegrown stars like Frankie Miñoza.
Article continues after this advertisementThe PGF is also firming up its support by way of sponsoring the airfare and accommodation of the team winners in the boys’ and girls’ divisions in the national finals slated next year at Summit Point in Batangas.
“We are in the process of strengthening this collaboration between the JGFP and the PGF to encourage more college players to stay competitive and be able to represent their schools,” said JGFP president Luigi Tabuena.
The Mindanao leg is one of the two regional components of the National Interschool series that has attracted hundreds of school kids from all over the country, the other being the Visayas leg.
