MANILA, Philippines – A force to reckon with on both ends of the floor, Cameroonian center Alfred Aroga was named Finals MVP after leading National University to the championship in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday.
Aroga averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds in the championship series and had game-highs of 24 points and 18 rebounds in the deciding Game 3 where the Bulldogs beat the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 75-59, before a record crowd of over 25,000 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-7 Aroga, playing in his first season, anchored NU’s league-best defense, which also carried the Bulldogs to their first title in 60 years.
