After a bittersweet past few months, the Gilas Pilipinas national team that finished second in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championship has been disbanded with its coach, Chot Reyes, relieved of his duties.

In a statement on Thursday, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) President Manny V. Pangilinan has proposed a “participative and consultative approach” in the initial selection process of the new national teams that would embark in international tournaments in 2015.

“The SBP board approved the formation of a screening-selection committee composed of SBP board members representing the UAAP, NCAA, CESAFI, NAASCU and the SBP through executive director Sonny Barrios for national teams not involving PBA players,” it said in the statement.
