MANILA, Philippines—With their fiery coach sending out a challenge, Rain or Shine’s Jeff Chan answered the call with a career-defining game.
Better-known as a loose-cannon shooter, Chan mustered the rebounder in him as he brought down 10 boards, a career-high for him, to go along with his 23 points and three steals.
“If we cannot perform, if the effort is not there, why keep them?” assistant coach Caloy Garcia echoed the words of head coach Yeng Guiao when the Elasto Painters lost 99-76 to the Talk N’ Text Elasto Painters.
“Last game we did not have the effort, when we saw the video us players realized that what we did was wrong,” Chan said after they demolished Barako Bull Energy 99-71 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday evening.
“Some of us were really hit with the message, including myself.”
With his 10 rebounds and an 8/15 shooting night, 53 percent, including 4/7 from deep, Chan had the testaments to his coach’s calls.
“Last game we were really beat in the boards, I wanted to show to the team that we should be aggressive,” Chan said.
With his shooting picking up, Chan hopes that it would go all the way after he slugged it out in the Fiba World Cup and the Incheon Asian Games.
“I’m close to a hundred percent in my conditioning,” he said.
