MANILA, Philippines—It’s the bigger predator that takes the victory.
In a matchup of aerial hunters, the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles swooped down on the stunned Adamson University Lady Falcons in straight sets 3-0, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14, during their first round game in the UAAP Volleyball Tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday afternoon.
Ateneo made sure that Adamson would be staying in a different altitude with a 7-2 flight, which saw Amy Ahomiro score on back-to-back possessions to make it 18-7.
Ahomiro then would star once more to finish the Lady Falcons with a well-timed block to finish the sweep.
Lady Eagles Team Captain Alyssa Valdez said that even with a dominating start to the season, coach Thai Bundit would not allow them to think that they’ve won everything.
“He keeps us stay grounded all the time,” Valdez said as her team go to a 2-0 start. “He doesn’t let us feel that we won two games.”
A 10-point lead, 21-11, would be put on the boards of Ateneo when Jhoana Maraguintot scored off the defense of Adamson with the ball bouncing to the officials’ table.
Valdez was on her usual scoring self with 15 points while Michelle Morente added 12.
Ella de Jesus almost became the third member of the double-digit scorers club but she only managed nine points for herself.
Jessica Galanza tried to bring her team to a fighting chance but her 12 points were not enough for the 0-2 Lady Falcons.
