Iglupas, partner clinch Phinma doubles crown
Last week’s champion Khim Iglupas settled for the doubles crown after she partnered with Indonesian Rifanty Kahfiani in stopping Japanese Yu Kufioka and Nanaka Takeuchi, 6-7 (8-6), 6-3, (10-3), yesterday in the Phinma-PSC International Juniors Tennis Championships–Week 2 at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Iglupas, who lost to Ayumi Miyamoto in the singles semis, thus collected her second doubles crown along with Kahfiani.
Miyamoto and Toru Horie made it an all-Japanese affair after they won the girls’ and boys’ singles titles.
Article continues after this advertisementMiyamoto, who lost to Iglupas in the quarterfinals last week, drubbed compatriot Momoka Chimura, 6-1, 6-2, for the top plum in the 18-Under category event sponsored by the Phinma Group of Companies, Philippine Sports Commission and Mariposa Foundation.
Horie bested Udayan Bhakar of India, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, to complete his back-to-back singles crowns.
