Quiban powers S’Woods
BAGUIO—Manila Southwoods banked on the superb round of national team member Justin Quiban’s five-under-par 64, worth 41 points in Stableford points at the Camp John Hay course, to grab a four-point edge in the Fil-Championship division of the 65th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament.
Quiban, who played in the recent Putra Cup in Brunei, started strong as he made a string of three birdies from Nos. 2 to 4. Although he picked up on the fifth, he rolled in four birdies more, including back-to-back on the par-5s No. 16 and 17 for that 64.
Together with Yuto Katsuragawa’s 37, Tonlits Asistio’s 35 and Chepe Dulay’s 31, Southwoods wound up with an even-par 144, four ahead off San Miguel Corp. and Royal Northwoods, which both finished with identical 140.
The performance of Southwood’s youth brigade was so superb that Joseph Tambunting’s 27 markers was disregarded in the five-to-play, four-to-count format.
