Cabrera bags major Asian karting plums

Gabriel Tayao Cabrera achieved his dream of delivering international glory for the country after emerging Asian karting prince in the 2014 Asian Karting Open Championships Series held recently  at Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

Aside from claiming the coveted Junior Karter of the Year plum of the local series, Cabrera took Asian Karting’s Formula 125 Open Juniors crown.
The 14-year-old Grade 10 student of Makati Hope Christian Schoo likewise bested his more experienced senior rivals in capturing the ROK Overall plum, certifying his status as local karting’s top driver this year.

“It has been a very busy season with the target goals we were eyeing to achieve,” said Cabrera.

Cabrera wrapped up his campaign with 109 points. His runner-up finish in the final leg proved enough since he already had the Asian Formula 125 Open Juniors title in the bag after the first Philippine leg last August.

Cabrera credits discipline, hardwork, dedication and determination to win.

“These four qualities build up the character of a true champion,” Cabrera added, while crediting mentors and racing greats JP Tuason, Edgen Dy-liacco, and the late Jose Boy Ochoa Jr. and Enzo Pastor for their influence on his racing careeer.

Aside from joining the senior ranks next season, Cabrera will eye more international stints.
