Iñigo Anton is starting to prove his worth as a future champion, besting more experienced drivers in the VMFest Tarmac Challenge at Clark International Speedway recently.
The 10-year-old Anton dominated the Group 2 night stage and placed third during the day races in Group 5 onboard a borrowed car after his original vehicle encountered mechanical problems.
Anton also ruled the MFEST series, setting the day’s fastest times in two stages.
Teammate Alfie Concepcion wound up second.
“I had a hard time adjusting to the replacement car but I’m so happy I still won,” said Anton after posting his seventh podium finish.
Veteran driver Carlos Anton was all praises for his son.
“My wins lately have been overshadowed by Inigo’s achievements,” the elder Anton said. “I never expected him to achieve so much at such a young age. I won my first race at 18 but Iñigo did it way younger than I was.”
Anton’s mother, Karen, was the first female champion in the Philippine search of the Marlboro Red Racing Series. She eventually emerged the first Filipino world champion of the said event, beating six other racers from different countries in 2007.
Baguio-based brothers Anton and Josh Roxas also got their share of the limelight as they split honors in the Group 1 class.
