BIMP-EAGA: UM’s Wagdos bags 2 golds
LABUAN, Malaysia—University of Mindanao’s Sonny Wagdos captured his second gold medal for Team Mindanao-Philippines in the 8th BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asia Growth Area) Friendship Games Sunday afternoon at Labuan Sports Complex here.
Wagdos clocked 16 minutes and 25.99 seconds in ruling the men’s 5,000 meters after topping the l,500 meters in the morning.
Zainuddin of West Kalimantan was second in the 5,000 in 16:48.66 with fellow Davao City bet Glein D. Payac third in 17:41.84.
Article continues after this advertisementThe 20-year-old Wagdos also added one silver in the men’s 800 meters and one bronze as part of the men’s 4×400-meter relay team. He timed 1:58.35 in the 800 behind the 1:58.06 of winner Fredy Pattiasina of East Kalimantan.
Davao’s April Rose Guiang settled for the silver in women’s discus throw then helped the city’s women’s 4X400 meter relay team to a bronze finish.
Guiang did 31.03 meters in the discus won by Wong Xiao Jing of Sarawak, Indonesia (35.32).
