Tautuaa, Parks 1-2 in D-League scoring race

The two unbeaten squads also boast of the two best scorers in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Cagayan Valley’s rookie big man Moala Tautuaa and Hapee’s versatile guard Ray Parks emerged as the scoring leaders in elimination round that’s set to wrap up late this month.

The 6-foot-7 Tautuaa, a Filipino-Tongan who grew up in the United States, averaged 16 points in four games to power the Rising Suns to a perfect 7-0 record.

This season’s No. 1 rookie pick, Tautuaa suited up for the Rising Suns only after three games as he also played for Malaysia in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).

Parks saw action in all of the Fresh Fighters’ dominating 8-0 romp to norm 15.4 points.

A two-time UAAP MVP, Parks stood out in a virtual all-star crew to help the Fresh Fighters clinch the first outright semifinal berth.

Far Eastern University standout Mac Belo also averaged 15.4 points in seven games, but his MJM M-Builders fell short in several thrillers and settled for a 2-6 card.

Bread Story-Lyceum’s Joseph Gabayni and Jumbo Plastic’s Philip Paniamogan completed the top five with similar 15 ppg averages.

The league resumes on Monday with Hapee and Cagayan Valley hoping to stretch their unbeaten run against separate opponents at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
