AFTER a close call last weekend, Ateneo will go all out against winless University of the East in UAAP women’s volleyball today at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles aim to grab a share of the top spot in the 2 p.m. duel just a day before the defending champions take on their similarly unbeaten rival La Salle in a rematch of last year’s enthralling finals.
Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez expects the team to play focused after last Sunday’s subpar outing against University of the Philippines, where the Lady Eagles dropped a set for the first time this season.
In the other match, Far Eastern University targets solo third spot versus the struggling University of Santo Tomas at 4 p.m.
The Lady Tamaraws, locked in a three-way tie at 3-3 with idle Adamson and National University, last saw action on Dec. 13 when they drubbed the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-23, 26-24, 25-10.
UST nearly upset NU in a five-setter last Wednesday, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-9.
If Ateneo triumphs over UE, both the Lady Eagles and the Lady Spikers will vie for a 7-0 sweep and the No. 1 spot at the end of the first round tomorrow.
