ADAMSON tries to duplicate its strong start when it opens its second-round bid versus University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament today at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons aim to rebound in the 4 p.m. match after closing out the first round with back-to-back losses that dragged them down to fifth place at 3-4.
A victory will push the Lady Falcons back in the top four, in a tie with idle University of the Philippines.
Far Eastern University, running sixth a 3-5, clashes with winless University of East in the first game at 2 p.m.
While Adamson may hold the advantage with the trio of Mylene Paat, Amanda Villanueva and Jessica Galanza at the helm, the Tigresses think they can avenge their four-set defeat to the Lady Falcons in the first round.
“We want to get back at the teams that beat us,” said UST coach Odjie Mamon as the Tigresses try to turn their campaign around after finishing the first round with a dismal 2-5 record. “We still have a chance.”
Led by Carmela Tunay, Pam Lastimosa and rookie EJ Laure, the Tigresses hope to build on their renewed confidence after ending a five-game skid with a 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23 upset win over the Lady Tamaraws.
The Lady Falcons, in contrast, absorbed consecutive four-set losses against UP and National University after a promising start in which they won three of their first five assignments.
