St. Jude rips Jubillee, rules PCYAA

MANILA, Philippines—Saint Jude Catholic School routed Jubilee Christian Academy, 77-48, to complete a two-game sweep of their junior division title series in the 2nd Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Basketball Championships Friday at Uno High School Gym in Tondo, Manila.

Renzel Yongco atoned for a 14-point performance in the team’s come-from-behind 65-59 victory in the series opener by exploding for 31 points, highlighted by four triples.

He also had six steals and five rebounds to emerge as the game’s best player.

Yongco’s farewell game as a high school player made him the league’s leading scorer for the second straight year with a 22.3-point average.

The Judenites finished with an 11-0 record in the eight-school event, to make up for last year’s finals defeat to inaugural titlist Uno High School.

Saint Jude gave up the game’s first six points but never trailed thereafter following a 10-0 blast. It was a huge turnaround from Game One when it entered the final quarter with a 52-44 deficit and labored hard to get the win.

Ahead 35-25 at the half, coach Luis Nolasco’s boys opened the third period with a 16-0 run for a 51-25 lead.

Earl See also fired 17 for Saint Jude while Daniel Pua had 13 points and 18 boards.

Philippine Cultural College will host next year’s edition.
