Global regains UFL top spot; Kaya unbeaten
MANILA, Philippines—Global regained top spot with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Stallion even as Kaya kept its perfect record with another superb performance Saturday night in the United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Substitute Dennis Villanueva knocked in the winning goal in the 89th minute as Global increased its tally to 10 points from four matches.
The win augurs well for a Global side bracing for its AFC Cup debut against South China of Hong Kong on Wednesday at Rizal Memorial field.
Article continues after this advertisement“I think the players got their just rewards in the end,” said Global coach Leigh Manson. “Very late goal, but top of the table. We’ve created a bit of a gap now with Stallion.”
Relying on a solid second half display, Kaya turned back Manila Jeepney, 4-0, to extend its unbeaten start to three matches.
Joshua Beloya fired the opener in the 27th minute before goals fro m Chris Greatwich, Younnouse Yaogo and Jovin Bedic sealed a comprehensive win for coach Adam Reekie’s side which remained in second with nine points.
