Galang faces eight month layoff, suffers ACL, MCL tear—report

MANILA, Philippines—Ara Galang faces a possible eight-month layoff after her freak injury in La Salle’s UAAP semifinals match against National University on Saturday, a report said.

A report from Spin.ph said that Galang tore both her medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament on her left knee.

Galang sustained the injury after she gave La Salle a 23-20 lead in the fourth set of their semifinals match against NU.

The Lady Spikers eventually won the match and set up their fourth straight Finals dance against rival Ateneo.

She was rushed to the Makati Medical Center for treatment.

Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus on Saturday said they have to start preparing for the Finals without their team captain and leading scorer.

He added that the players now have to rely on themselves and not just on one player.
