Terrence Romeo shines brightest in 2015 PBA All-Star weekend

MANILA, Philippines — Second-year guard Terrence Romeo had quite a 2015 PBA All-Star Weekend.

He won the Three-Point Shootout, dazzled in the Rookie-Sophomores Blitz Game last Friday where he set the record for the most points in the event with 50, and was named MVP in the All-Star game.

Romeo, who is one of the  few young stars included in the All-Star game, said that he owed his All-Star Game MVP to his North teammates.

Romeo took center stage and led his team to a close win with 30 points, 22 coming in the second half and 15 in the fourth quarter alone.

The Globalport rising star  said he was surprised to be named MVP in a game where the main purpose is to give the fans a show to remember.

“Nagulat ako na MVP ako. Siyempre hindi ko naman ineexpect na mag-MVP ako,” he said.

(I was surprised to be named MVP. I wasn’t expecting to be named MVP.)

(As I always say, I won’t be able to get that MVP award without my teammates. Especially Paul Lee, Jayson Castro, LA Tenorio, they always talk to me. And also other players like Beau Belga, Japeth Aguilar, they tell me to just shoot. They trust me. If they don’t pass the ball to me, I won’t be able to shoot. So I’m thankful to my teammates.)

The one-time UAAP MVP , who currently leads all locals in scoring in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup, also offered high praise for North teammate and Alaska Aces star Calvin Abueva.

“Masarap kasi wala kang poproblemahin kasi takbo ng takbo, rebound, paglibre pumapasa, sobrang sarap kakampi ni Abueva, dumedepensa pa. Napapagaan yung trabaho namin kapag nadoon si Abueva.”

(It’s feels good to be teammates with Calvin Abueva. He runs, he rebounds, he passes the ball when open, he defends. Our job is much easier when Abueva is there.)

What matters most for Romeo, though, is not winning the MVP but seeing the fans with smiles on their faces.

“Maganda yung All-Star ngayon, Kitang kita napasaya namin yung mga tao. Kahit mainit yung gym nakikita namin walang tigil yung sigaw nila so para sa amin nagawa namin yung trabaho namin. Pumunta kami dito para mapasaya sila and at the same time makapaglaro kami.”

(It was a good All-Star game. You can see that we were able to make people happy. Even though it was hot in the gym, they won’t stop screaming. We are able to do our job to make them happy. We went here to make them happy and play.)
