MANILA, Philippines–Amid the busy and grueling season of the PBA, the players still know when to sacrifice and give back to the Lord.
For the Lenten season, PBA players always make sure to remember Jesus and sacrifice any way they can.
Even with his team busy for the Commissioner’s Cup playoffs, James Yap assured that the Lord will always be his priority for the Holy Week.
“I make sure that I always have time to pray, reflect, and give thanks for all the blessings He has given me,” the Purefoods swingman said.
For Alaska guard RJ Jazul, the Holy Week is his reserved time for his family, rest, and of course God.
“The first purpose of Holy Week is giving back to God,” Jazul said. “It’s giving everything back.”
Jazul added that he and his family will go out of the capital to take a breather.
Meralco’s spitfire guard Gary David wants to celebrate his Holy Week with a nostalgia trip in the province but his practice schedule wouldn’t let him.
David said he usually goes with his wife’s family to join the pabasa or go back to Bataan to watch people who practice flagellation, but “everything is for God.”
“It’s to remember the sacrifice of Jesus for us,” David said.
Yap’s longtime teammate Marc Pingris said his Lenten sacrifice for 2015 is not spending time with his mother who’s in Pangasinan.
“I won’t be able to be with my mother for the Holy Week but she’ll understand,” Pingris said who is battling Talk N’ Text in the playoffs.
