Cebuana tennis hits South Cotabato
Polomolok, South Cotabato, will host legs 4 and 5 of the 2015 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship series with close to 120 entries from different provinces in Mindanao expected to participate in the event at Polotana Tennis Club and Canary Housing Tennis Club.
Young tennis players from the Davao region, North and South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Genral Santos, and Davao City have confirmed their participation, including past champion Janus Al-Najeeb Ringia, who has ruled the 14-Under and 16-under age groups in previous legs of the series.
Earlier this year, legs were held in Valencia City, Cagayan de Oro, and Kidapawan, all aimed at discovering new talents for the national team, including the Philippine Davis Cup team supported by Cebuana Lhuillier.
Article continues after this advertisement“We are encouraged by the big turnout in each leg; it only shows that our efforts are not going to waste as tennis has continuously grown in popularity and the quality of tennis has significantly improved at the age group level,” said Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, also the chair of Philta.
The 6th leg of the series is set to start in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, from April 11 to 16, backed by the local government of Molave through Vice Mayor Rico Amigo.
“Last year, we had 138 entries but this year, we expect an even bigger field as we have scheduled the event in the summer,” said event organizer Mario Craiz, who praised past champions like Clyde Mari Casino and Jose Maria Pague.
