Young karter continues win streak

/ 06:07 AM April 05, 2015

After winning the FORS Shakedown race car event recently, Castrol-Yokohama’s Iñigo Anton emerged the Formula Cadet Novice champion in the kickoff of the 2015 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.

With poor conditions brought about by bad weather, the 10-year-old Anton had to quickly learn how to drive his Kart Plaza-prepared Formula Cadet kart under torrential rain for the time trials where he qualified second on the grid beside pole sitter Constantin Reisch from Austria.

Showing marked improvement after his debut in the Petron KF opener, the young Anton came strong in the actual race, topping both qualifying and prefinal heats that put him on pole for the finals.

The weather turned worse and Anton lost the lead early on to Reisch but regained it in lap 3 and held it until he spun out at the hairpin turn in lap 5.

This gave the lead back to Reisch and Anton had to play catch up until lap 9 when he finally got past Reisch for the lead.

“I am so happy with the win. It was really hard driving under super slippery conditions. I thought my race was over when I spun out. Thank God I was still able to catch Constantin (Reisch) and win,” said Iñigo after the race.

“Iñigo has really enjoyed karting. It has also helped him become a better race car driver whenever he gets back into the full size race cars in Clark,” his father champion racer Carlos Anton bared.
