Petron, Foton try to keep 1-2 Superliga positions

Petron stakes its unblemished record against a dangerous Cignal squad while Foton guns for win No. 3 Thursday in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

The Blaze Spikers seek a fourth straight victory at 6:15 p.m. against the HD Spikers, who are inspired by their breakthrough win against the Philips Gold Lady Slammers last Monday.

Foton, running second with a 2-1 record, is a slight favorite over Mane ‘n Tail (1-2) in their 4:15 p.m. clash.

The Blaze Spikers rallied from two sets down to repulse Shopinas, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-9, also last Monday.

The HD Spikers are expected to put up a big fight following their 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 conquest of the Lady Slammers after dropping their first two games.

“Finally the players are getting the hang of it,” said Cignal coach Sammay Acaylar who will rely mainly on Carmela Tunay, Jannine Navarro, Charisse Ancheta, Jeanette Panaga and veteran Michelle Segodine. “But we will be tested against Petron. They have a lot of weapons.”

Petron coach George Pascua welcomed the hard-earned five-set victory against Shopinas.

“We put ourselves in that situation in practice, and it was a good thing we executed well in the actual game,” said Pascua.
