Liga leaders whip foes

Petron sustained its unbeaten run by crushing Foton, 25-19, 25-20, 25-14, while Shopinas routed Mane ‘N Tail, 25-23, 25-20, 25-16, Thursday night in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.

Assured of a semifinal spot, the Blaze Spikers played like everything was on the line, unleashing all the weapons at their disposal to send the Tornadoes reeling to their fourth loss in seven games.

Petron, which clinched win No. 8, briefly found itself trailing in the second set at 4-8 before Aby Maraño backstopped a rally that overwhelmed Foton.

Earlier, the Lady Clickers thrashed the Lady Stallions and bolstered their quest for the second semifinal slot.

Shopinas leaned on Cha Cruz and Stephanie Mercado, who drilled in 18 and 14 points, respectively to give the Lady Clickers their fourth victory in seven games.

All told, Petron fired 41 spikes as against the Tornadoes’ 29.

“I told them that we should always give our 100 percent every time we step onto the court,” said Petron coach George Pascua.

Dindin Manabat paced Petron with 17 points, followed by Maraño with 11 and Daquis with 9.
