Alyssa Valdez and Gretchel Soltones proved too tough to handle as PLDT Home Ultera walloped Cagayan Valley, 25-20, 25-22, 26-28, 25-18, last night to extend its unbeaten start to four games in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena.
Benefiting from the solid play of setter Rubie de Leon, Valdez and Soltones fired 25 and 21 points, respectively, as the Ultra Fast Spikers conquered another title contender.
PLDT, which stunned Army in straight sets last week, found its offensive rhythm early, keeping Cagayan Valley guessing with an array of off-speed spikes and quick sets to race to a two-set advantage. Jaja Santiago contributed 12 points, including four blocks for PLDT.
The Lady Rising Suns took the third set, but the Ultra Fast Spikers turned to Valdez and Soltones for timely hits in the fourth frame to put away Cagayan in an hour and 50 minutes.
Later, Army fought back from a set down to dump Meralco, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 and improve to 3-1.
Rachel Anne Daquis came off the bench to finish with 16 points while Dindin Santiago tallied 13 points for the Lady Troopers.
In Spikers’ Turf action, Cignal HD notched its second straight victory at the expense of Philippine Air Force, 25-21, 27-25, 25-21.
Reyson Fuentes, Lorenzo Capate and Edmar Bonono combined for 39 hits to power the HD Spikers, who hacked out the win in 82 minutes.
