Castro takes home Best Player award, Chism named Best Import

He’s so fast he took home the Best Player of the Conference trophy in a blur.
Jayson Castro, who was the unanimous choice, took the illustrious individual award for the Commissioner’s Cup after a superb showing, leading the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters to the Finals against Rain or Shine.
Castro’s Tropang Texters are down 2-1 against the Elasto Painters.
This conference’s BPC award is Castro’s third in his career after averaging 25 points per game, 6.0 assists per game, and 4.6 rebounds per game after the Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.
He previously won the award in the 2013 Philippine Cup and the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup.
Wayne Chism, the Elasto Painters’ smooth-operating big man, took the Best Import award for the Commissioner’s Cup.
Chism is the third Painter to win the award under head coach Yeng Guiao after AZ Reid won the trophy in the 2011 and 2014 Governor’s Cups, and Jamelle Cornley in the 2012 Governor’s Cup.
Castro had a total of 1,164 points to lead the Filipinos with runner-up Painter Paul Lee a distant second with only 782 points.
Reigning MVP Junemar Fajardo of San Miguel came in third with 542 points, Globalport’s polarizing guard Terrence Romeo placed fourth with 408 points and Ginebra big man Greg Slaughter was at fifth with 404 points.
Chism accumulated 1,160 points in a lopsided imports race with second-placer Ivan Johnson of Talk N’ Text getting 873 points.
Purefoods’ returning import Denzel Bowles had 666 points, and Meralco’s Josh Davis had 501 points.
