Cignal, Philips in Liga quarterfinal clash

Cignal swept Mane’n Tail, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, Thursday night to nail the No. 5 slot in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.

Both wound up at 2-8 but the HD Spikers gained the higher ranking over the Lady Stallions due to a better quotient.

Cignal battles No. 4 Philips Gold Saturday in a crossover quarterfinal match slated at Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

Shopinas and Foton were battling for the second and last outright semifinal berth at press time.

Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar said they are devising ways to upset the Lady Slammers, who ended the eliminations with an even 5-5 record. Cignal and Philips Gold split their two elimination games.

Rookie Carmela Tunay came out firing from all angles, finishing with 15 points to power the HD Spikers, while Jeanette Panaga and Mervic Mangui added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
