Fast Spikers roll to 5th Shakey’s V-League triumph

PLDT Home Ultera encountered little resistance in clinching a fifth straight victory at the expense of Navy Thursday in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Ultra Fast Spikers took just 64 minutes in pulling off a 25-14, 25-22, 25-14 win over the Lady Troopers to extend their unbeaten start in the season opening tournament.

Jaja Santiago finished with 11 points to pace PLDT which had the luxury of fielding some of its fringe players after taking a two set advantage.

Alyssa Valdez and Suzanne Roces tallied eight points apiece as the duo played together for just two sets.

Valdez, who finished with 25 points against Cagayan Valley last Sunday, accounted for two of PLDT’s 10 aces which spelled the difference in the match. The Lady Sailors, who had Jolina Labiano as their best scorer with six points, fell to their third loss in five outings.

Fourbees Perpetual Help tied Navy at fifth spot after a 25-20, 25-20, 27-25 triumph over Baguio in the first game.

Jamel Suyat continued her fine form for the Lady Altas by firing 16 points, 15 coming off attacks as Perpetual Help rolled to a second straight win.

Ana Diacoreza and Marijo Medalla combined for 23 points for the Lady Altas, who held a 10-4 edge on service aces and a 5-2 advantage off blocks.

Meanwhile, Cignal rolled to a third straight Spikers’ Turf triumph after a 25-13, 28-26, 25-12 walloping of Cavite Fourbees. The HD Spikers improved to 3-2 while the Patriots stayed winless in four games.

Air Force stunned Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-20, 25-19, 16-25, 25-16 to climb to fourth spot with a 3-1 slate.
