Hot UPIS dribblers notch third Freego Cup victory
University of the Philippines-Integrated School streaked to its third straight win by downing Far Eastern U, 79-71, to take the Group A lead in the 8th Smart-PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup held recently at Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
With Juan de Llano and John Gregorio at the helm, the Juniors Maroons outscored the Baby Tamaraws, 25-13, in the third quarter to zoom to a 57-47 lead going into the final period.
The Junior Maroons kept their hot form in the next stanza with Javi de Llano and Allane Barles joining the fray.
Javy de Llano went on to finish with 16 points to clinch the Freego Player of the Game award .
AMA University scored the day’s biggest win by stunning defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College, 79-75, in the tournament also backed by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), Fed Seal and K Tech Sports Inc.
Ateneo forged a tie for second and third places with La Salle-Zobel by outlasting Letran, 69-54.
