Superal humbles pros at WW Invt’l
Princess Superal, the best lady amateur in the region who is not in the Philippine team, underscored her eminent status by nipping Cyna Rodriguez in a playoff Thursday to win the ICTSI Wack Wack Invitational.
The 18-year-old Superal two-putted the first playoff hole to secure her fourth victory of the year and her first on local soil.
Rodriguez closed out with a level par 72 for a 216 total which Rodriguez, a multi-titled pro, matched by firing a 68.
Article continues after this advertisement“I just stayed focused and refused to be intimidated by the pros,” said Superal who, like Rodriguez, is being handled by swing guru Bong Lopez.
Thailand’s Wichanee Meechai, who started out the day tied with Superal and Fil-Japanese Chiiro Ikeda for the lead, dropped two shots in her last four holes to submit a 73 and miss the playoff by one.
Saraporn Chamchoi also of Thailand rallied with a 69 and caught Meechai at 217 for a piece of third spot, with Ikeda shot a 74 for 218. Musong R. Castillo
