RUSSEL Escoto beat the clock in overtime to lift Far Eastern U past UAAP champion National University, 86-84, yesterday in Group A of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at Filoil Flying V Arena.
Escoto buried the game-winning putback with one-tenth of a second left to decide the thrilling rematch of last season’s UAAP Finals.
Mac Belo also played hero for the Tamaraws, sending the game into overtime at 72-all by nailing a corner triple with just five-tenths of a second left.
FEU climbed to a share of second with NU and idle JRU at 3-1 behind Perpetual Help, which stayed unbeaten in four outings after routing Adamson, 85-58, in the first game.
Scottie Thompson, the reigning NCAA MVP, posted a triple-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Altas.
In Group B, La Salle also halted University of the East’s unbeaten run in a 96-82 decision.
The Warriors slipped to 4-1 for a share of the top spot with Centro Escolar, which shocked NCAA champion San Beda, 80-69, Friday night.
The Archers improved to a share of third at 3-1.
