Win or lose/right or wrong

WAS OFFICIAL loser Manny Pacquiao’s disgusting claim that he won his bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. good or bad for the image of the Filipino as sportsman?

Majority of home fans didn’t seem to mind Pacquiao’s ludicrous claim, although there were fans and experts from abroad who felt uncomfortable and were critical of the ticklish national sentiment.

Bad or good may not matter for the moment as Mannymania continues to sweep the country.

There are, however, other developments, both good and bad, that are worth looking into, but have been lost in the post-megabout frenzy.

Here’s a serving of contrasting good and bad sports news.

From Free Baste News:

The Commission on Audit has noted the sorry state of the country’s sports venues despite receiving sufficient funds from the government. The COA reported that the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) got an additional budget of P626.583 million in 2013 alone but failed to maintain and upgrade the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila, and the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.

The report itemized the defective and damaged sports facilities in both venues which it said “pose as safety and security and/or hazards to athletes and prejudice their performance in their respective field of competition.”

Ms Coseteng has to practically go it on her own in her bid to bring out the best from neglected national sports talents; while Baste Chua continues in his crusade to deliver news, some of them hidden behind the scene, that are critical to national development.
