San Beda bags Filoil title

SAN Beda showed it’s raring to rule this season’s NCAA  wars again.

The Red Lions—who will kick off their bid for a sixth straight NCAA crown in two weeks—dismantled the La Salle Archers in a surprise 79-53 rout to bag the preseason men’s basketball crown in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Sunday at Filoil Flying V Arena.

Ryusei Koga fired 18 points to lead the Lions, who outscored the Green Archers, 27-11, in the pivotal third period of the knockout Finals match.

“We just made plays and we made them miss a lot of shots,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin. “We concentrated on [guards] Thomas Torres and Andrei Caracut, because if you look at their last two to three games, they were shooting the lights out.”

Pierre Tankoua also added 12 points off the bench to lead the solid production of the Lions’ second unit.
