Aguilar staying positive despite Ginebra’s slim playoff chances

Japeth Aguilar knows Ginebra only has an outside chance to make it to the playoffs after yet another heartbreaking setback Sunday night.

In desperate need of a win to breathe life into its flatlining playoff bid, Ginebra came out with a sense of urgency and took a 10-point lead early in the game.

But Meralco behind its import Andre Emmet, found a way to come back and made crucial plays on both ends to win.

“It’s going to be very hard for us [to make the playoffs],” said Aguilar after 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. “We need to win our last two games and at the same time, we also need to hope that other teams would lose at this point.”

The Kings lost their second straight game and will wrap up their campaign against the quarterfinals-bound Barako Bull Energy on Wednesday and also-ran NLEX Road Warriors in the final game of the elimination round on June 24.

Only eight teams will advance in the playoffs and Ginebra is currently 10th in the standings with a 3-6 record. Things are certainly not looking food for the Kings and Aguilar has no choice but to look at the bright side.

“Never-say-die lang kahit na natatalo kami (We just have to play with a never-say-die attitude despite all the losing). We need to keep improving with the system because we still need to work on coach Frankie’s system.” CFC
