Barangay Ginebra San Miguel rookie Rodney Brondial had no choice but to bring his dog named “Rodman” with him to the game.

And it turned out to be a wise decision as Rodman, a nine-month-old French Bulldog, became somewhat of lucky charm to his owner.

“This is the first time that I brought him here,” Brondial told reporters in Filipino while carrying Rodman with his right hand after helping the Kings defeat the Barako Bull Energy in a must-win game Wednesday night. “I was going to bring him to my condo in Eastwood but traffic was bad so I just brought him here.”

“Actually, I forgot that he was with me all the while in my car and when I parked that’s the time I realized he was with me because he stood up and I didn’t have enough time to go back because it was traffic and it was raining.”

With Rodman in attendance, Brondial played one of the best games of his young career with 10 points, six rebounds and a block in 19 minutes. He also shot 5-of-5 from the field and grabbed four offensive rebounds.

“My focus is not on offense but rather on defense, the points are just a bonus for me. I had no idea I scored 10 points tonight. I just want to contribute in which way I can.”

As for Rodman, Brondial said he’s unsure whether he’ll bring him again.

“I don’t know yet because he was barking inside the dugout and I had to talk to one of our ballboys to take care of him and tell him to pet.
