PH triathletes bag Asian TC medals

FRESH off sterling performances in the 28th Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine triathletes earned podium finishes in the team event of the 2015 New Taipei Asian Triathlon Championships recently in Taiwan.

Kim Mangrobang, silver medalist in the Singapore SEA Games, paired up with Kim Kilgroe to place second in the Elite women’s team with an aggregate time of four hours, 54 minutes and 41 seconds.

SEA Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas bagged a bronze after posting a total time of 4:16:23 with Jonard Saim in the men’s side.

Mangorabang wound up seventh overall with a time of 2:22:25, while Kilgroe also made it to the top 10 with a 2:32:16 finish in the 1.5K swim-40K bike-10K run race.

The PH girls checked in behind champion Japan, the runaway winner in 4:18:22.

Huelgas landed eighth overall at 2:06:18 and Saim timed 2:10:05 to finish 11th. Japan won (4:00:50) over Hong Kong (4:08:53).

SEA Games gold medalist Claire Adorna also competed in the event but had trouble in the bike stage due to an electronic gear shift malfunction.  Jasmine W. Payo
