The Philippines’ premier collegiate sports league just got older, and bolder.
Returning for its 91st season, the NCAA officially opened Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

NCAA Policy Board President Reynaldo Vea, who formally opened the ceremonies, said the NCAA is not just about sports competition, it’s also about the camaraderie between the member schools.
“The NCAA will not only develop camaraderie among the student-athletes but develop better ties within the member-schools,” Vea, who is also the Mapua CEO, said.
Joining Vea in the ceremonies was Mapua Cardinals legend Alvin Patrimonio.
A four-time PBA MVP, Patrimonio is no stranger to excellence and had his fair share of representing the country.
Patrimonio is part of the Philippine Centennial Team.
He said competition would turn players into ruthless competitors but after the game it’s all about family.
“You’re competitors during the games but after you play you’re all part of a big family.”
Vea said the competition in the NCAA is the “celebration of the sports we love.” IDL
