Blue Eagles, Generals debut in Spikers’ Turf
MONTHS after their historic title romps, Ateneo and Emilio Aguinaldo College start their quest for another men’s volleyball crown versus separate opponents in the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference Wednesday.
The Blue Eagles, who bagged their first UAAP championship early this year, kick off their bid against rival La Salle in Group B action at 1 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Generals, also a first-time champion in the NCAA, battle University of the East in Group A in the last game of a triple-header at 5 p.m.
St. Benilde and La Salle-Dasmariñas tangle in the other Group B match at 3.
UAAP MVP Marck Espejo returns to lead the Eagles, who also boast Finals MVP and best setter Ish Polvorosa and aces Rex Intal and Ysrael Marasigan.
Howard Mojica, the NCAA MVP, hopes to lift his team after a solid run not only with EAC but also with PLDT Home Ultera, which he powered to the league’s Open Conference title last month.
The tournament produced its first upset Monday night as NCBA pulled off a stunner with a 25-18, 26-24, 12-25, 25-16 victory over Far Eastern University.
