Golovkin willing to move down in weight to fight Mayweather

Boxing’s middleweight king is ready to take the next step to fight the pound-for-pound king.

Gennady Golovkin, the IBO, WBA, and WBC Middleweight Champion, talked to ESPN’s Sports Nation and said he is willing to move down in weight to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. if the no. 1 pound-for-pound boxer meets him in the middle.

Mayweather last fought at 147 lbs but Golovkin wants the undefeated American to move slightly to light middle-weight at 154 lbs.

“He’s a great champion,” Golovkin said in Sports Nation.

Golovkin fought exclusively at middleweight but moving down to light-middleweight is not a problem for him.

“Look at me, I’m not big. My last couple of fights I’m 158, 159. This is possible for me.”
