Teodoro, JRU show never quit attitude after stunning comeback

With 3:40 left in the game and Mapua leading 84-66, Jose Rizal University seemed well on its way to another defeat.

But with a three-pointer from Tey Teodoro sparking one final push for the Heavy Bombers, JRU pulled of one of the stunning come-from-behind wins in recent history.

The squad from Kalentong fired a scathing 24-3 tear to finish the game and pull the rug from under Mapua for a 90-87 win on Tuesday in the NCAA season 91.

Teodoro once again anchored his squad with 13 points in that final run, including the go-ahead basket with 3.3 seconds left to play.

“He’s a big time player,” said coach Vergel Meneses.

The PBA great praised Teodoro’s composure down the stretch, saying, “He carried us. His patience was there. Although he was open from beyond the arc, he took a high-percentage shot and went straight to the basket.”

Teodoro said that the team was just driven to comeback after a lackluster performance all game long.

“We just played the game as long as there was time on the clock. When we got the momentum, we got more aggressive down the stretch,” he said. “We know it’s hard to comeback from a big deficit, but maybe in the end, we just wanted the win more.”

With the win, JRU is now at solo fourth place with its 5-3 slate. CFC
