NU assures semis spot drops St. Benilde in Spikers’ Turf
National University assured itself of a semifinals spot in the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference after fending off College of St. Benilde, 22-25, 25-18, 28-26, 28-26, in the quarterfinals Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
Bryan Bagunas went berserk in the clutch, scoring three straight points to seal NU’s 5-0 record.
With the Bulldogs down 25-26, Bagunas went to work first with a crosscourt kill to tie the set at 26-26 then a couple off-the-block attacks for the match point and winner.
Article continues after this advertisementMadzlan Gampong led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Bagunas added 14.
Ismail Fauzi, Francis Saura, and Kim Malabunga each added 10 points for NU, which is now tied with Ateneo atop the standings.
Johnvic De Guzman led the 2-3 Blazers with 18 points.
