Unranked Del Rosario barges into Palawan tennis q’finals
MARCUS del Rosario racked up three straight victories to barge into the quarterfinal round of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala at Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City over the weekend.
The unranked Del Rosario thumped Leyton Portin (4-2, 4-0), No. 11 Jonas Silva (4-2, 3-5, 5-4(6) and fifth-ranked AJ Alejandre (4-0, 4-2) to join the other seeded bets in the last eight of the boys’ 16-and-under of the Technifibre-backed event.
Top seed Cenon Gonzales Jr. held off Winston Fernandez, 5-3, 4-1, to arrange a quarterfinal showdown with No. 8 Marraphael Teng while third seed Justin Suarez clobbered Aljon Talatayod, 4-1, 4-1, to seal a duel with Del Rosario.
Other quartefinal matches will pit Harvey Gilbuena against Joshua Austria and Gabriel Tiamson against either Jacob Martin or Enco De Almeida.
