The San Antonio Spurs have been the model of consistency in the NBA with five titles in a span of 15 years and playoff appearances in each season.
With such a prestigious track record, no wonder the Spurs have developed such a winning mindset as shooting guard Danny Green explained.
“Every year we want to win but there’s no guarantee,” Green said Saturday during the 2015 NBA 3X Philippines at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Green rewrote history during the 2013 NBA Finals where he set the record for most 3-pointers made in a championship series in the Spurs’ seven-game series setback to the Miami Heat before his team served a sweet Texas-sized dish called revenge the following year.
And as the new NBA season approaches, the Spurs were considered the biggest winners in free agency when it landed most sought-after free agent in the offseason in LaMarcus Aldridge while keeping their core of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard and Manu Ginobili intact for another title run.
San Antonio also added the services of former All-Star David West to complement the future Hall-of-Famer Duncan making the Spurs one of the favorites to win it all.
“We don’t expect to win but we want to win, hopefully we get into a good position by staying healthy and getting into chemistry with one another,” the 28-year-old Green said.
The man keeping everything in check for the Spurs is their long-time head coach Gregg Popovich, who is a master in preserving his players as the season progresses.
“Pop will do a good job with that and help us keep our bodies fresh,” he said.
