More often than not, robbers get away with their loot leaving the victim traumatized and sometimes physically hurt.

For one robber, however, he picked a victim who turned the tables on him.

Wesley Sousa de Araujo had a buddy with him and tried to rob a group of women of their phones when one of the women retaliated and put de Araujo in the most painful hold of his life.

His victim? Brazilian MMA fighter Monique Bastos.

FEATURED STORIES

According to MMAFighting.com, Bastos was on her way to a jiu-jitsu training session in Acailandia, Brazil when de Araujo and an accomplice tried to rob her and her friends.

“I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones,” Bastos told MMAFighting.com. “I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one.”

Bastos got de Araujo in a rear naked choke then put him in a triangle choke when they were on the sidewalk.

In the video MMAFighting.com shared, de Araujo was seen weeping and begging Bastos to let go but the straw weight would have none of it.

Bastos said this wasn’t the first time she got robbed, the first time was at knifepoint but she fought back using jiu-jitsu.

“I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back,” she said. “There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.”
