College of St. Benilde tripped San Sebastian College, 69-62, in the NCAA season 91 men’s Basketball Tournament Thursday at San Juan Arena.

In a match of eliminated teams, the Blazers got the better of the Stags using a strong third quarter to notch a 4-12 record while San Sebastian fell to 5-11 after an upset victory over San Beda on Tuesday.

Blazers head coach Gabby Velasco said their long preparation time played a factor against the weary Stags.

“That was one of our advantages because they only had one day of preparation,” Velasco said. “Unlike us, we had continued practice after our Friday loss against University of Perpetual Help.”

Te Blazers found their steam in the third quarter and outscored the Stags 24-15, to turn a 30-27 half time lead to a 51-45 edge going to the final period.

Jonathan Grey finished with 25 points, six rebounds, and five steals for St. Benilde while Jeffrey Ongteco added 19 points.

Bradwyn Guinto led the 5-11 Stags with 19 points.
