Mondilla bags ICTSI Players title
TRECE MARTIREZ, Cavite— Clyde Mondilla shot an eagle on No. 15 en route to a 5-under 67 that handed him the ICTSI Tournament Players Championship crown at the expense of the favored Tony Lascuña at Sherwood Hills Golf Club yesterday.
That 6-foot eagle off a solid 6-iron shot from 196 yards capped Mondilla’s charge from two strokes down and fended off Lascuña, who failed to score a birdie on his last two holes.
Counting his earlier rounds of 70 and back-to-back 69s, the 21-year-old Mondilla pooled a 13-under 275 and bagged the top P650,000 purse.
Lascuña settled for a 68 and wound up with a 276 total worth P430,000.
Jay Bayron fired the day’s best, a bogey-free 65, to leap to solo third at 279. Orlan Sumcad finished with an even 72 and wound up joint fourth with Bibat and Elmer Salvador at 280.
ICTSI head of Public Relations Narlene Soriano awarded the trophies for the year’s top achievers, including Order of Merit winner Miguel Tabuena, who was represented by uncle Martin Nievera.
Tabuena finished the season with P3,051,917 in purses plus P50,000 for winning the OOM crown.
